George the Monkey has maintained a difficult relationship with the Tokyo art scene for many years.

He believes his early work was misunderstood, particularly his experiments with recorded sound.

Critical recognition did not follow. George attributes this largely to the failure of the Tokyo art establishment to understand his work.

George greatly admired the work of Yayoi Kusama.

He did, however, feel there were “too many spots.”
